Background
In February 2004, the citizens of Hondo approved a 4B ½ cent
sales tax to fund economic development initiatives. The city’s sales
tax rate increased from 7.75% to 8.25%, effective in September 2004.
City Council appointed the City of Hondo Economic Development
Corporation (HEDC), which is composed of (1)City Councilmember,
(1)member of the Medina County Appraisal District, and (5) local
business owners who are also residents of Hondo.
