![]() City Government & City Services The City of Hondo operates a Council/Manager form of government. The Mayor and five Council members are elected at-large to serve 2 year staggered terms, providing for a stable governing environment. The City Council makes policy, approves ordinances and the annual budget, and appoints the City Manager, who is the chief executive officer of the City. The City delivers numerous services to the 8,000 residents and business owners of the community, with professional implementation and administration of all policies and ordinances adopted by elected officials. City services include planning and zoning, library, parks and recreation, public safety, and water treatment and distribution. Electric power is supplied through the San Antonio public utility, City Public Service, which has been ranked one of the most competitive public utilities in the country. Fire protection is provided by the Hondo Volunteer Fire Department, and regional emergency medical services are delivered through a private provider. The Medina Community Hospital provides quality healthcare to area residents.
