A Great Place to visit...
Hondo sits in the midst of some of the most beautiful vacation and
leisure settings in Texas, within close proximity to many top
recreation sites, such as Garner State Park. San Antonio, a
half-hour drive away, is one of the State’s top destination centers
and home of the Alamo and famed San Antonio RiverWalk, offering
visitors numerous cultural and theatrical events.
Hondo means “deep” in Spanish and derives its name from Hondo Creek.
Providing an enticing transition into the famous Texas Hill Country
which runs along Highway 173, Hondo is in the heart of fine game
hunting ranches and properties featuring native and exotic wildlife.
Hunting & Fishing
Exotic or native hunting, fishing, hiking, bird watching, or
photography can be enjoyed at some of the best ranches in the
country, for which Texas is known. Guest ranches and bed & breakfast
establishments supply relaxing or exciting lodging choices for
leisure or business visitors.
Historic Hondo
The Medina County Museum illustrates some of the strong history of
Hondo. Located in the restored 1897 Southern Pacific Railroad depot
in downtown Hondo, exhibits include pioneer artifacts and Medina
County history.
